On October 2, 2018, physicians will be required to consult the CURES Database,
California’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) prior to prescribing
Schedule II-IV drugs for the first time, and every 4 months thereafter if that medication
remains part of the patient’s treatment.
Ruben Kalra, M.D.
Dr. Ruben Kalra provides integrative and empathetic care to patients in pain. Born and raised in California and trained at Harvard in anesthesiology and pain management, Dr. Kalra is both affable and approachable. He completed an anesthesia and critical care residency at Harvard's Brigham and Women's hospital followed by a pain management fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Dr. Kalra maintains double board certifications in anesthesiology and pain medicine. He was the Chairman of the Cross-Campus Pain Management Team for the John Muir Walnut Creek & Concord Hospitals from 2010 to 2015, served as the director for the preeminent functional restoration program in San Francisco and has served as a board member for the California Society of Interventional Pain Physicians since 2010. Dr. Kalra is an invited pain management expert for Grand Rounds. Dr. Kalra is the treating physician for the California Highway Patrol and hundreds of firefighters and law enforcement. Dr. Kalra has an avid interest in mindful meditation and the use of minimally invasive techniques for the relief of neck and back pain.
Ross Daley
Ross Daley is a Program Analyst who started with the CURES program in January of 2018. Before joining the Program, Ross was employed by the University of California, Student Affairs Information Technology Division in Berkeley and assisted professional staff and students with information technology matters. Ross completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley in 2017 with a degree in International Relations. Within CURES, he analyzes and reviews legislation and legal inquiries.
Jean Smith
Jean is an Associate Governmental Program Analyst who started with the CURES Program in March 2018. Before joining the program, Jean worked for U.S. District Court in Montana for the Honorable Charles C. Lovell. Jean came back to the California Department of Justice. Previously, she worked as a Field Representative for the Supervised Release File and the Domestic Violence Restraining Order System. Jean has a MBA from the University of Montana and an undergraduate degree in Secondary Education.
