Many social media tools are currently available for physicians to use, including social networking platforms, media sharing sites, and blogs, among many more. These social media tools can be used by physicians to enhance their professional networking, education, personal or organizational promotion, patient care, patient education, and public health programs. However, in addition to these benefits, there are also potential risks to both physicians and patients, including damage to professional image, breaches of HIPAA, violation of professional boundaries, distribution of poor-quality information, as well as legal or licensing issues. This webinar will provide an introduction to the social media tools that are currently available as well as discuss potential benefits and pitfalls associated with the utilization of these social media tools.
